In August 2008, China will host its first Olympic games in its capital Beijing. One point three billion Chinese people are looking forward to this magnificent convention, hoping to serve as the host for the friends from all over the world. Students in the United States also desire to show their support to this great event. Therefore, FACSS in UMN organized a name signing ceremony in Coffman Memorial Union on April 11th., when the Olympic Torch is at its stop in United States.

Although prepared with only three days' advance, this event was carefully organized by FACSS board members. Olympic flags and banners read "one world, one dream" were hand painted by student volunteers, and flags of People's Republic of China and University of Minnesota, which China Center kindly provided were hung above the signing table. At 11:00 am, with the sound of "Sing For Motherland", the event started. Students and passers-by were drawn to this uplifting scene and signed their names on a beautiful sheet of cloth painted with the symbol of Beijing Olympics. Some of them were moved by the spirit, lingered and exchanged with each other exciting comments. As for 12:30pm, when the ceremony was scheduled to end, there were still students coming in and signing their names. It finally counted 272 signatures, 272 best wishes to the Olympic spirit and our motherland.

This event was successful and well received. We, FACSS board members were as well moved by the patriotism of our fellow Chinese student in UMN, which inspired us to carry on with our best service to the Chinese community in UMN and the Twin Cities.
